A Grade 6 pupil takes it, and qualifiers enter as Grade 7 scholars with free secondary education and a monthly stipend. It is competitive, not pass-or-fail — there is no passing score. Examinees are ranked by score, and ranking happens twice: the top 240 nationally are principal qualifiers for the Main Campus, while each regional campus takes its own top scorers depending on that campus's quota. So your child competes both nationally and within your region. For SY 2026-2027, 27,965 applied, 20,232 sat the exam, and 1,738 qualified — about 8.6%. The next examination is on 30 January 2027, with applications accepted the year before, so there is time to prepare properly.
